🔧 Product Description

Genuine Volvo Penta ball bearing for D4 and D6 marine diesel engine installations and DPH sterndrive units. It provides the supported, low-friction rotation of a shaft within the drive or engine assembly and is supplied as a single bearing. Replacement is normally carried out whenever the surrounding assembly is opened for service or overhaul.

⚙️ Key Features

  • Genuine Volvo Penta upper-drive ball bearing
  • Correct Volvo Penta part number 11018
  • Used in upper gear-set and shaft assemblies
  • Suitable for sterndrive and IPS propulsion systems where specified for your engine
  • Manufactured for marine gearcase speed, thrust and lubricant exposure
  • Engine type: Volvo Penta marine diesel sterndrive and IPS propulsion system

🔌 Function

The ball bearing locates and supports a rotating shaft while allowing it to turn with minimal friction, carrying both radial and thrust loads generated in service. Correct bearing condition maintains shaft alignment and smooth running within the assembly.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Growling, rumbling or grinding noise that changes with shaft speed
  • Excessive play or roughness when the shaft is turned by hand
  • Vibration traced to the bearing housing under load
  • Discoloured, pitted or spalled races and balls on inspection
  • Metal particles or bearing debris found in the surrounding oil or grease

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Work clean — leave the bearing in its wrapping until the moment it goes in, and do not wash the preservative out or blow it dry with compressed air
  • Apply the fitting force only to the ring being fitted, through a tube or drift that bears on that ring alone; force pushed through the balls from one ring to the other dents the raceways and the bearing will be noisy and short-lived from the first run
  • Where the fit calls for it, expand the inner ring with even, controlled heat rather than driving it on, and never heat a bearing with a flame or beyond the temperature given in the workshop manual for your engine
  • Check the shaft and housing seats before fitting — scoring, burrs, corrosion or a worn seat will ruin a new bearing, and fretting marks mean the seat itself needs attention
  • Fit the bearing square and fully home against its shoulder, note which way round any sealed, shielded or marked face must go, and lubricate with the grease or oil specified for the application before it is turned under load
