🔧 Product Description

This is a genuine Volvo Penta retaining ring, a small circlip-style locking component used to secure a shaft or bore-mounted part in its correct axial position. It is specified for TD164, TWD1240 and TWD16-series industrial and generator-set engines as well as the TWD1744GE. Because retaining rings are single-use in most assemblies, fitting a new one whenever the joint is disturbed is recommended.

🔌 Function

A retaining ring seats into a machined groove to lock a shaft, pin or bearing against axial movement within an assembly. It holds the mating components in their designed position while allowing rotation or float where required.

  • Ring has spread, lost tension or no longer seats fully in its groove
  • Visible distortion, stretching or cracking of the ring after removal
  • Retained component moving axially, knocking or working loose in service
  • Wear or scoring in the groove and on adjacent faces from a displaced ring
  • Missing ring found during teardown, often with related debris in the housing

  • Fitted inside water pump 3830046 and included in repair kit 11990043 — order the kit if you're servicing the pump rather than sourcing the ring alone
  • Fit a new ring rather than reusing the old one, and use correctly sized circlip pliers so it isn't overstretched going in
