🔌 Function

The elbow nipple provides a threaded, angled connection at the engine oil drain point so oil can be directed into a hose or container during draining. It maintains a sealed, leak-free joint in the lubrication circuit while the engine is running.

🛠️ Service Notes

• Clean both threads and check the sealing face or cone is unmarked before the fitting goes anywhere near the engine
• Seal the joint the way that thread is designed to be sealed — sealing washer, O-ring or thread sealant on a tapered thread — and renew the soft parts rather than reusing them
• Aim the elbow so the hose or pipe leaves it in a natural line, and hold that alignment while tightening; twisting the hose round afterwards to correct the angle loads the joint
• Do not over-tighten to cure a weep, particularly into aluminium or cast housings — strip the joint, find out why it leaked and reseal it properly
• Support the hose or pipe so it is not left hanging on the fitting and passing its vibration into the joint
