🔌 Function

The gasket forms a sealed joint between two mating component faces, preventing leakage of fluid, air or exhaust gas and maintaining pressure within the system. It also compensates for minor surface irregularities between the two faces when the joint is torqued down.

• Check the faces for flatness, cracks and corrosion pitting, and make sure no old gasket, carbon or hardened sealant is left in the corners or around the bolt holes
• Fit the gasket dry unless the workshop manual for your engine calls for a sealant, and then only the type it specifies — surplus sealant squeezes out into oil, coolant and fuel passages
• Draw the fasteners down progressively in the sequence and to the torque given in the manual for your engine, and recheck after the first heat cycle where the manual asks for it
