Genuine Volvo Penta cooling water intake for 32 mm internal diameter hose, weighing 1.678 kg and listed for 136 applications across the D2, D3, D9, AD, TMD, TAMD, MD, KAD and KAMD families. The intake is a through-hull fitting with a strainer, installed through the bottom of the hull, and is supplied with the fitting and strainer, fittings for the pipe connection, a shut-off valve and hose clips. Hose bore is what separates the range - 19, 32, 38 and 50 mm - so match the intake hose before ordering. It supersedes 841723.

🔌 Function

Forms the inlet through which raw seawater is drawn into the engine's cooling circuit, giving a sealed connection point between the hull pickup and the seawater pump.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Reduced or lost raw water flow and overheating alarms
• Seawater weeping or dripping at the intake hose connection
• Corrosion, pitting or cracking of the intake body
• Air drawn into the raw water circuit, so the pump primes erratically
• Marine growth or debris restricting the strainer

🛠️ Service Notes

• On a motor boat the strainer faces forward so water is forced up into the system under way; on a sailing boat it faces aft to keep water out of the system when sailing with the engine stopped
• Close the shut-off valve before the boat is towed and before working on the intake
• Order by hose bore - 861495 and 861496 are 19 mm, 3587668 is 38 mm and 1140127 is 50 mm
• On a motor boat point the strainer forward; on a sailing boat point it aft so water is not forced in under sail
• When a motor boat is being towed, the shut-off valve must be closed
