A genuine Volvo Penta / Volvo special installation tool used to guide and press the front crankshaft radial seal into the timing-cover or front-housing bore on D4D, D4E, D6D and D6E engine families. The tool supports the sealing lip and controls the installation depth so the seal enters squarely without distortion. This listing is for one complete assembly tool; it is not a multi-part service kit and no crankshaft seal is included.

🔌 Function
The tool guides the seal over the crankshaft and presses it evenly into the front housing to the specified depth. Correct support prevents the sealing lip or outer casing from becoming distorted.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Pressing face chipped, burred or mushroomed from being struck
- Guide surface scored or picked up, so it drags on the sealing lip as the seal passes over it
- Locating spigot worn, so the tool no longer centres itself on the crankshaft nose
- Corrosion or pitting on the working faces after storage
- Seals coming out of the bore cocked, or with a rolled lip, which points back at the tool rather than the seal
🛠️ Service Notes
- Check the crankshaft nose for a wear groove before condemning a seal that has leaked - a new seal in the same track will leak again
- Clean and lightly oil the guide before each use so the lip slides on rather than dragging
- 11668401 is the equivalent tool for the rear crankshaft seal on the same engine families
