🔌 Function

The valve spring washer forms the bearing surface between the valve spring and its adjacent seating point in the cylinder head, keeping the spring correctly located and squarely loaded. This maintains stable valve spring geometry throughout the valve's opening and closing cycle.

🛠️ Service Notes

• Renew as a set when the valve gear is stripped, and keep the parts for each valve together so nothing is mixed between cylinders
• Inspect the seating face for cupping, cracking or a wear step before reassembly and renew rather than reuse anything marked
• Make sure the seat in the head and the face of the washer are clean, with no carbon or swarf trapped underneath
• Fit the correct way up and the correct way round as shown in the workshop manual for your engine, and check the spring and any seal or shroud sit square before the spring is compressed
• Once assembled, check by hand that each valve moves freely and seats fully before the engine is turned over
