🔌 Function

The bracket locates and secures an engine-mounted component to the engine or its housing, holding it at the correct position and alignment. It transfers the component's load and vibration into the engine structure so mountings and connections are not stressed.

• Visible cracking or fracture around mounting holes or bend radii
• Distorted or bent bracket allowing the mounted component to sit out of alignment

🛠️ Service Notes

• Offer the bracket up and start every fastener by hand before tightening any of them, so the component is not pulled into a strained position
• Check the mating faces are clean, flat and free of corrosion scale — a bracket that does not sit flat will work loose and let the component move
• Renew self-locking nuts, lock washers, tab washers or thread-locking compound wherever the original assembly used them, and tighten to the figure given in the workshop manual for your engine
• Where the bracket carries a rubber mount or bush, renew that at the same time rather than reusing a perished one
• On brackets in the inlet and exhaust area, never force alignment to make the holes line up — cure the misalignment at its source, or the bracket and the component it holds will both crack
