The snap ring seats into a machined groove to hold a shaft, bearing or bushing in a fixed axial position, preventing it from walking out of its bore under load. It provides positive mechanical retention without the need for threaded fasteners.

🛠️ Service Notes

• Always fit a new snap ring rather than reusing the one you removed — a ring that has been sprung open once has lost tension
• Use proper snap-ring pliers and open the ring no further than it needs to go; overstretching it, or levering it in with a screwdriver, leaves it slack in the groove
