🔌 Function

The turbocharger uses engine exhaust flow to rotate the turbine and compressor wheels. The compressor supplies pressurised air through the intercooler to the intake manifold, enabling the 6LYA-STE to develop its rated power and torque under marine operating loads.

Common signs of failure:

• Loss of boost pressure and reduced vessel performance

• Engine cannot reach rated full-load rpm

• Excessive black smoke under acceleration

• Blue smoke or increased lubricating-oil consumption

• Loud whining, siren, scraping or turbine-contact noises

• Oil present in the compressor outlet or charge-air cooler

• Excessive turbocharger shaft movement

• Damaged compressor or turbine blades
