• Coat the tappet face and its bore with clean engine oil or the assembly lubricant specified for your engine before fitting, so the first start is not a dry one
• Bar the engine over by hand after assembly to confirm free, quiet movement, then set and check the valve clearances by the method and figures in the workshop manual for your engine
