🔧 Product Description

This is a genuine Volvo Penta O-ring, a sealing element supplied as a single service item and also included as part of a gasket kit. It seals the mating joint between assembled components to prevent fluid leakage and the ingress of water or dirt, and it is normally renewed whenever the joint it serves is disturbed. This part number supersedes several earlier references, so it is the current replacement for those older numbers.

🔌 Function

The O-ring compresses within its groove to form a fluid-tight seal between two mating surfaces or a shaft and its housing. It keeps oil, coolant or fuel contained within the assembly while preventing water and contaminants from entering.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Oil, coolant or fuel weeping or dripping from the sealed joint
  • Rubber hardened, cracked or taking a permanent flattened set
  • Swollen, softened or distorted material from fluid or heat exposure
  • Loss of pressure or fluid level in the system served by the joint
  • Water or debris contamination found inside the assembly

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Always fit a new O-ring — never refit one that has been removed, as it has already taken a set in its groove
  • Clean the groove and both sealing faces and check them for nicks, scoring and corrosion pitting; a damaged groove will leak however good the new seal is
  • Smear the ring with a little clean lubricant compatible with the fluid it seals, then roll it into place by hand so it sits untwisted and fully in its groove
  • Never lever an O-ring over a sharp edge or thread with a screwdriver; use a blunt plastic tool and protect any edge the ring has to pass
  • Assemble the joint squarely and tighten to the figure and sequence given in the workshop manual for your engine — over-tightening extrudes the ring and causes the very leak you were curing
