🔧 Product Description
This is the M6 adjusting screw from the Steering group, supplied in the early-type specification. It provides the threaded adjustment point used to set and hold clearance or alignment within the steering assembly, and is also listed against shield applications including the DPX shield. The M6 early-type designation is what separates this screw from later or differently sized alternatives, so confirm your existing screw before ordering.

🔌 Function
The adjusting screw provides a threaded means of setting and retaining a precise clearance or position within the steering assembly. Once set, it holds that adjustment against operating loads and vibration.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Stripped, galled or cross-threaded threads that prevent correct torque or adjustment
- Corrosion and seizing that makes the screw impossible to turn without damage
- Screw backing out under vibration, causing the adjustment setting to drift
- Rounded or damaged drive head preventing tool engagement
- Worn or deformed contact tip resulting in inconsistent or unattainable adjustment
🛠️ Service Notes
- Note and record the existing setting before disturbing anything, so you have a reference to return to if needed
- Release the lock nut fully before turning the screw, then reset the lock nut and re-check the setting — tightening the lock nut usually moves the adjustment
- Set to the clearance or position given in the workshop manual for your engine using the correct feeler or gauge; do not judge the setting by feel
- Inspect the tip and the threads and renew any screw with a worn, mushroomed or picked-up tip, because a worn tip makes the setting drift in service
- Never use an adjusting screw to force a component into position, and carry out a hot re-check after running if the manual for your engine calls for one
