• Rough or hunting idle caused by an unmetered air leak at the manifold joint

• Lean running, hesitation on acceleration or poor throttle response
• Visible cracking, hardening, crushing or burn-through of the gasket material on removal
• Fuel or oil weeping around the manifold flange

🛠️ Service Notes

• Clean both faces properly without gouging them, and plug or cover the open ports so nothing drops into the engine while you work
• Check the manifold and head faces for flatness and for cracks or erosion around the ports before fitting; a distorted flange will not seal on a new gasket
• Fit the gasket dry, the right way up, with every port and bolt hole lined up, and use sealant only where the workshop manual for your engine calls for it
• Tighten from the centre outwards in the sequence and to the figures the manual gives, and re-check after the first heat cycle where it specifies
• Check for induction leaks after running — a leaking inlet joint usually shows as uneven running or a changed idle rather than a visible drip
