🔌 Function

• Check the clutch or damper mating face for scoring, heat cracking and blueing, and check the crankshaft rear seal and any spigot bearing while access is good
• Clean the crankshaft flange and the flywheel face so both are dry and free of oil, old sealant and burrs; a trace of oil on that joint is enough to let the flywheel work loose
• Locate the flywheel the correct way round on its dowel or locating feature, and renew the bolts wherever the manual calls them single-use
• Tighten the bolts progressively in a criss-cross pattern to the figure and stages given in the workshop manual for your engine, and never lever against the ring gear teeth to hold it
