It provides the engine management system with a live electrical signal used for monitoring and control, and is supplied as an individual replacement unit weighing approximately 0.25 kg. Correct sensor operation is essential for accurate engine control and fault-free running.
🚤 Compatibility

⚙️ Key Features
- Genuine Volvo Penta OEM part number 15112438
- System group: Ignition and Control Systems
- Net weight approximately 0.25 kg
- Fits TAD1140-42VE, TAD1150-52VE, TAD1170-72VE and TAD1180-83VE diesel engines
- Supplied as a single sensor unit
- Engine type: Volvo Penta D11 inline 6-cylinder electronically managed industrial diesel
🔌 Function
The sensor converts a physical engine condition into an electrical signal that the engine control unit reads and acts upon. The control system relies on this input to manage engine operation and to trigger warnings or protective strategies when readings fall outside expected limits.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Fault codes or warning lamps relating to a sensor signal being out of range
- Erratic, drifting or implausible gauge and instrument readings
- Engine derate, reduced power or a shutdown triggered by the control system
- Rough running, poor starting or unstable idle caused by an incorrect signal to the ECU
- Corroded, damaged or water-ingressed connector pins and wiring at the sensor
🛠️ Service Notes
- Note how the sensor sits and how its lead is routed before removing it, and support the harness so refitting does not leave the cable strained or rubbing
- Turn the sensor with a spanner on its hex only — never lever or twist it by the connector body or the wiring, which breaks the internal joint even when the sensor looks undamaged
- Renew the O-ring or sealing washer where one is fitted, and do not add thread sealant unless the manual for your engine specifies it; sealant on the threads can break the earth path of a sensor that earths through its body
- Tighten to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine — overtightening distorts the housing and shifts or destroys the sensing element
- Make sure the connector is clean, dry and fully latched home and check the pins for corrosion and spread — a poor connector accounts for a great many faults blamed on the sensor — then run the engine and confirm the reading or warning lamp behaves sensibly before returning the boat to service
