The charge air hose forms a flexible, sealed link in the charge air path so compressed intake air from the turbocharger reaches the engine without leakage. It also absorbs engine movement and vibration that would otherwise stress rigid charge air pipework.

• Clean the spigots and check them for corrosion, pitting or a lifted bead before fitting — a rough spigot will not seal against a new hose
• Push the hose fully onto each spigot so the clamp lands behind the bead, and fit new clamps where the originals are corroded or have been over-tightened and dug in
• Tighten the clamps evenly to the figure given in the workshop manual for your engine where one is specified, and re-check them after the first run up and again after the first period of use
• Look inside the hose while it is off: oil or soot in the bore points to something upstream that wants investigating before the new hose goes on
