This is the genuine Volvo Penta oil pan (sump) for the TAD1250 series industrial diesel engines, supplied within the Engine system group. Bolted to the underside of the cylinder block, it forms the sealed reservoir that holds the engine's lubricating oil and acts as the collection point for oil returning from the galleries and bearings. This current-issue casting is the latest revision in its supersession line and replaces the earlier oil pan 15112271.

🔌 Function

The oil pan seals the base of the engine block and stores the engine's lubricating oil, allowing the oil pump pick-up to draw a consistent supply during operation. It also collects oil draining back from the lubrication circuit and helps dissipate heat from the oil.

• Oil leaks or seepage at the pan-to-block sealing face or gasket line
• Cracks, splits or impact damage to the pan body causing rapid oil loss
• Damaged, stripped or leaking drain plug threads
• Corrosion or pitting of the pan surface, particularly around the lowest points
• Persistent low oil level or oil pressure warnings traced to pan leakage

🛠️ Service Notes

• Clean both faces down to bare metal and remove every trace of old gasket or sealant; a hardened ridge will hold the pan off its face and leak
• Check the flange for distortion around the bolt holes — pans are routinely pulled out of shape by over-tightening and will not seal until the flange is flat again
• Fit a new gasket, or apply sealant only where the manual for your engine specifies it; where sealant is used, assemble and tighten within its working time and let it cure before adding oil
• Tighten evenly in stages, working out from the centre, to the figures and sequence in the workshop manual — even tightening matters far more here than force
• Renew the drain plug sealing washer, clean the pickup and strainer while the pan is off, and refill with the grade and quantity specified for your engine before starting
