This is a genuine Volvo Penta flange for the lubricating and oil system of 30, 31, 40, 41, 42, 43 and 44 series marine diesel engines. It forms part of the current replacement arrangement for the superseded oil delivery pipe 859055 and pressure pipe 1542383, where it is fitted together with pipe 860821, flange 1545272 and seal rings 1542385. A light, single-piece connecting flange, it secures and seals an oil line joint within the engine's pressurised lubrication circuit.

🔌 Function

The flange clamps and locates an oil line connection in the engine's pressurised lubrication circuit, holding the pipe securely against its sealing rings. It maintains a leak-free joint so full oil pressure and flow reach the engine's bearings and galleries.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Oil weeping or dripping from the pipe joint the flange secures
• Low or fluctuating oil pressure caused by a loose or poorly clamped connection
• Corrosion, pitting or distortion of the flange face preventing an even seal
• Cracking or thread damage around the fastener holes
• Repeated seal ring failure at the same joint after refitting

🛠️ Service Notes

• Clean both mating faces back to clean metal and check them for flatness and for burrs or old gasket left in the sealing area; a face pulled up around a stud hole will not seal however hard it is tightened
• Always fit a new gasket, seal or O-ring where the joint uses one, and only use a jointing compound if the workshop manual for your engine calls for one at that joint
• Draw the fasteners up evenly in stages, working across the flange rather than round it, and finish to the tightening sequence and figures given for your engine
• Inspect studs, nuts and threads while the joint is apart and renew anything corroded, stretched or seized — exhaust-side fasteners rarely come out twice
• Re-check the joint for leaks once the engine has been up to working temperature and cooled again
