🔧 Product Description

A genuine Volvo Penta crankshaft timing gear for the front gear train of selected 30-, 31-, 40-, 41- and KAD-series engines. The gear is fixed to the crankshaft and drives the idler gears that operate the camshaft, injection pump and other timed components. It works with camshaft gear 1542034, idler gear 1542061 and the corresponding timing marks and key arrangement. Gear tooth condition must be assessed across the entire train.

The gear transfers rotational drive between shafts within the engine, meshing with its mating gear to maintain the correct drive ratio and timing relationship. Correct tooth condition and backlash are essential for quiet, reliable power transfer.

🛠️ Service Notes

• Inspect the mating gear as well as the one being renewed; a chipped or worn tooth on the partner will quickly ruin a new gear, so change them as a pair where the wear is shared
• Check the shaft, bush or bearing the gear runs on for wear and scoring before assembly and renew anything that is not to size
• Fit the gear square and press it home rather than driving it with hammer blows, which spread the bore and mark the teeth
• Oil the teeth and bearing surfaces on assembly so the gear is not run up dry on first start
