A genuine Volvo Penta high-strength connecting-rod flange screw used to clamp the connecting-rod cap on selected D12 and D16 engine families. The fastener is exposed to high cyclic tensile loading and must be tightened using the exact torque-and-angle procedure specified for the engine. Twelve screws are normally required for a complete six-cylinder engine. Reuse, stretch limits and replacement requirements must be determined from the applicable workshop manual rather than assumed.

• Where the flange is serrated it must bear directly on clean metal to grip; discard any screw with a deformed flange or damaged serrations rather than reusing it
• Tighten to the torque and sequence given in the workshop manual for your engine, and treat the screw as single-use where the manual specifies an angle-tightened or stretch fastener
• Check the thread in the receiving component at the same time; a pulled or corroded thread will not hold a new screw however carefully it is torqued
