Genuine Volvo Penta valve collet for the engine group, used in pairs to lock the valve spring retainer onto the groove machined in the valve stem. This small but critical valve train component holds the spring assembly under load so the valve seats correctly on every cycle. It suits the TWD16, TID162, TD164, TAMD162, TAMD163, TAMD165 and TAD1630/1631 series engines.

🔌 Function

The valve collet grips the machined groove in the valve stem and wedges into the spring retainer, transferring valve spring load to the valve. It keeps the valve spring assembly securely captured so the valve opens and closes in time with the camshaft and seats fully when closed.

• Worn, rounded or fretted contact faces where the collet grips the valve stem groove
• Ticking, tapping or irregular noise from the valve train under load
• Loss of compression or misfire on the affected cylinder from a valve that no longer seats
• Collet working loose or dropping out, allowing the spring retainer to release the valve
• Cracked or chipped collet halves found during cylinder head inspection

• This head runs four valves per cylinder, so a full set needs 48 collets - six cylinders x four valves x two halves - more than the two-valve heads elsewhere in this range take
• Because two halves lock each valve, always renew and fit them as a matched pair rather than mixing a used half with a new one
