🔧 Product Description

This is the genuine Volvo Penta lock tab from the inlet and exhaust system group, used to mechanically secure fasteners against loosening from vibration and thermal cycling. It is the early-type version of this component and has since been superseded by part number 966717. Fitment covers the 16-litre TWD, TID and TAD industrial and marine diesel engine families.

🔌 Function

The lock tab is folded against a fastener head or nut to prevent it backing off under engine vibration and heat cycling. It maintains correct clamping load on inlet and exhaust system joints so sealing integrity is preserved.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Fasteners found loose or backed off at inlet or exhaust joints
  • Cracked, split or fatigued tab, particularly at the fold line
  • Tab already bent and re-bent from prior service, so it can no longer be locked securely
  • Corrosion or heat scaling that has weakened the tab material
  • Exhaust or intake leakage traced to a joint where the locking tab has failed

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Twelve of these tabs go into a single assembly here, so plan on renewing the full set rather than one tab
  • A lock tab that has already been folded once is work-hardened; don't reuse a bent tab even if it looks intact - fit a fresh one and bend it only after the fastener is at its correct torque
