🔧 Product Description

This is a genuine Volvo Penta sealing ring, a small static seal used to maintain a leak-free joint between mating components on the engine. It is also supplied as part of gasket kit 876838, so it can be ordered individually when only this one seal needs renewal. It is specified for D2 series marine diesels as well as MD, TMD, TAMD, TID, TWD and TAD engine families.

🔌 Function

The sealing ring forms a static seal at a component joint or fitting, preventing fluid or pressure loss between the mating faces. It compresses on assembly to fill minor surface irregularities and keep the connection tight in service.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Weeping or dripping fluid at the joint the ring seals
• Hardened, flattened or cracked ring on inspection
• Loss of pressure or air ingress at the connection
• Fluid residue or staining around the mating faces after running
• Repeated need to re-torque the fitting to stop a leak

🛠️ Service Notes

• Always fit a new sealing ring rather than reusing the old one — a ring that has been compressed once has taken a set and will not seal reliably a second time
• Clean the groove or seat and check it for scoring, corrosion and old sealant before fitting; a mark across the sealing face will leak however good the ring is
• Ease the ring into place without stretching, twisting or dragging it over sharp edges or threads, and check it is seated squarely all the way round before closing the joint
• Do not add sealant or jointing compound unless the workshop manual for your engine calls for it, and tighten the joint or union to the figure given in that manual
• Check the joint for weeping once the engine has been run up to temperature and allowed to cool, as many sealing rings only show a leak after a heat cycle
