🔌 Function

The thrust washer absorbs axial (fore-and-aft) loads transmitted to the crankshaft and maintains correct crankshaft end float. It provides a bearing surface between the rotating crankshaft thrust face and the fixed main bearing saddle.

🛠️ Service Notes

• Fit the washer with its oil-groove face toward the crankshaft thrust face and make sure any locating tab fully engages its slot in the bearing cap/saddle - a washer that can rotate will spin and score the crankshaft journal.
• After assembly, measure crankshaft end float with a dial gauge before final tightening; if float falls outside the workshop manual limit, check washer thickness and seating rather than forcing the assembly together.
• Renew together with the inner thrust washer as a full set - fitting only the outer washer while leaving a worn inner washer in place will not restore correct end float.
