🔌 Function
The fan ring, or fan shroud, forms a close-fitting enclosure around the cooling fan so that drawn air is directed through the radiator rather than spilling around the fan blades. This maintains the designed airflow volume and keeps coolant temperatures within specification under load.

- Cracked, split or broken sections around the fan opening
- Rising coolant temperature or overheating under sustained load due to lost airflow
- Rattling or vibration noise from loose or fatigued mounting points
- Contact damage or scoring where the fan blade tips have struck the ring
- Corrosion or distortion causing misalignment with the fan and radiator
🛠️ Service Notes
- The fan ring guides air through the cooling package and only does its job if it is complete and correctly positioned — fit it so the fan runs centrally within it with even clearance all the way round
- Turn the fan by hand through a full revolution after fitting and check that nothing touches; a ring that fouls a blade will wreck the fan
- Use all the original fixings, rubber mounts and grommets, and check for cracks around the mounting points — a ring loose on broken mounts will fret, rattle and eventually break up
- Never run the engine with the ring or fan guard removed or damaged: it costs cooling performance and it is the guard between you and the fan
- Clean the radiator or charge-air cooler faces and inspect the fan blades while the access is good
