🔌 Function

Secures and locates the oil-pressure pipe connection so pressurised engine oil is transferred without leakage or movement. Inspect the housing, bore, threads and sealing face for distortion or corrosion, then tighten the cover or closure using the specified sequence and torque.

• Always fit a new gasket, seal or O-ring where the joint uses one, and only use a jointing compound if the workshop manual for your engine calls for one at that joint
• Draw the fasteners up evenly in stages, working across the flange rather than round it, and finish to the tightening sequence and figures given for your engine
• Inspect studs, nuts and threads while the joint is apart and renew anything corroded, stretched or seized — exhaust-side fasteners rarely come out twice
• Re-check the joint for leaks once the engine has been up to working temperature and cooled again
