🔌 Function

The valve spring washer forms the lower seat for the valve spring where it bears on the cylinder head, spreading the spring load and preventing the coil from digging into the head surface. It also keeps the spring concentric with the valve stem and guide throughout the valve's travel.

• Make sure the seat in the head and the face of the washer are clean, with no carbon or swarf trapped underneath
• Fit the correct way up and the correct way round as shown in the workshop manual for your engine, and check the spring and any seal or shroud sit square before the spring is compressed
• Once assembled, check by hand that each valve moves freely and seats fully before the engine is turned over
