🔌 Function

The impeller rotates inside the cooling pump housing to draw and pressurise coolant or raw water through the engine's cooling circuit. Maintaining this flow keeps engine and heat exchanger temperatures within their designed operating range under load.

• Reduced or absent raw water flow at the exhaust outlet
• Cracked, torn or missing impeller vanes found during inspection

🛠️ Service Notes

• Shut the raw water seacock before opening the pump, open it again before starting, and confirm water is discharging with the exhaust once the engine runs
• Check the housing and wear plate for scoring and the cover face for flatness while the impeller is out — a worn housing will chew a new impeller
• Lubricate the new impeller with glycerine or whatever the workshop manual for your engine specifies; never mineral grease or oil, which degrades the rubber
• Fit it the right way round for the direction of rotation, easing the vanes in so they lie the way they will run, and fit a new cover gasket or sealing ring
• Account for every piece of an impeller that has shed vanes — fragments carry downstream and block the heat exchanger or the exhaust injection point
