🔧 Product Description

This is a genuine Volvo Penta cover from the Battery and Mountings group, used to shield the battery and its terminal connections on the engine installation. 🚤 Compatibility

  • Engine Family: TAD, TD, TWD, TID, D, TADH
  • HP Range: Approximately 700 HP

⚙️ Key Features

  • OEM Volvo Penta part number 1587694
  • System group: Battery and Mountings
  • Net weight: 2.45 kg
  • Fits TD, TID, TWD, TAD, D9 and D11 series industrial, genset and marine diesel engines
  • Supplied as an individual cover component

🔌 Function

The cover encloses the battery and its terminal posts to prevent accidental contact and short circuiting, while keeping debris and moisture off the connections. It also contributes to keeping the battery securely retained and protected within its mounting.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Cracks or splits in the cover body from vibration, heat or ageing
  • Brittle, chalky or deformed material that no longer holds its shape
  • Broken or missing retaining tabs or fixing points so the cover will not stay seated
  • Corrosion or acid staining indicating leakage and loss of terminal protection
  • Exposed battery terminals due to a loose or ill-fitting cover, risking short circuits

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Clean both sealing faces back to clean metal and check the cover for distortion, cracks or pulled bolt holes before refitting — a warped flange will not seal even with a new gasket
  • Where the joint uses a gasket, seal or O-ring, always fit a new one and seat it dry unless the workshop manual for your engine specifies a sealant; never try to make a poor joint tight with extra sealant
  • Tighten the fasteners progressively and evenly, working out from the centre, to the figure given in the manual for your engine — pressed steel, alloy and plastic covers distort easily if pulled down hard or unevenly
  • If the cover carries a shaft seal or bearing, support it square to the shaft as it goes on so the seal lip is not nicked or rolled over
  • Check that any breather, drain or oil return passage in the cover is clear before final tightening, and look for leaks once the engine has been run up to temperature
