🔌 Function
The fan hub mounts the cooling fan to the engine and transmits drive from the belt to spin the fan. It maintains correct fan alignment and running clearance so airflow through the radiator or heat exchanger remains consistent.

- Bearing noise, rumbling or squealing from the front of the engine
- Excessive play or wobble in the fan when moved by hand
- Fan blade contact with the shroud or radiator due to hub misalignment
- Belt squeal, rapid belt wear or belt throwing caused by a seized or stiff hub
- Rising coolant temperatures from reduced airflow
🛠️ Service Notes
- Check the hub bearing before you fit anything to it — turn it by hand feeling for roughness, drag or play, and look for grease or oil escaping past the seal
- Renew the hub as an assembly rather than nursing a rough bearing; a seizing fan hub will strip the belt and can throw the fan
- Inspect the fan, its fasteners and the belt drive whenever the hub is disturbed, and check the pulleys line up
- Tighten hub and fan fasteners to the figures in the workshop manual for your engine, and check the fan turns true and clears the shroud, hoses and wiring right round
- After the first running period, recheck the fasteners and belt tension and feel the hub for unusual heat or noise
