🔧 Product Description

This genuine Volvo Penta engine heater is a engine cold-start heating component used in the engine pre-heating/cold-start system. It is manufactured to the original Volvo dimensional, material and interface requirements so the serviced assembly retains its designed alignment, sealing, load capacity and operating reliability. Approximate component weight: 0.22 kg. In service, it provides pre-heating to improve cold starting and reduce initial engine wear and smoke. Selection must be confirmed by OEM part number 1676838, the exact engine/product model, serial number and the installed assembly configuration.

🚤 Compatibility

Typically suits:

  • Volvo Penta TWD1240VE
  • Volvo Penta TAD1241GE
  • Volvo Penta TAD1242GE
  • Volvo Penta TAD1240GE
  • Engine Family: TWD, TAD

⚙️ Key Features

  • Genuine Volvo Penta OEM part number 1676838
  • Rated 220-240V, 1500W
  • Net weight approximately 0.22 kg
  • Fits TAD1240GE, TAD1241GE, TAD1242GE and TWD1240VE engines
  • Supplied as an individual heater element

🔌 Function

The engine heater warms the coolant while the engine is stopped so the unit stays close to operating temperature and can start and load quickly in cold conditions. Pre-warming also reduces cold-start wear, white smoke and starting time on standby installations.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Engine remains cold or slow to start despite the heater being powered
  • Open circuit or no continuity across the heating element
  • Tripped breaker or repeated earth-leakage faults when the heater is energised
  • Coolant weeping or corrosion around the heater seal or housing
  • Scale build-up or burnt element casing causing reduced heat output

🛠️ Service Notes

  • The cooling system must be filled and properly vented before the heater is switched on — energising the element in a dry or air-locked jacket will burn it out
  • Isolate the shore supply and let the engine cool before removing or fitting a heater, and drain enough coolant to work below the heater opening
  • Renew the sealing ring or gasket at the opening and tighten to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine
  • Inspect the element for scale and the housing for corrosion; a heavily scaled element runs hot and will fail again
  • Have the electrical connection made off correctly and protected, fed from a properly earthed and protected shore supply, and check the cable and connector for damage each season
