🔧 Product Description

This genuine Volvo Penta hexagon nut is a fine-thread adjustment lock nut used in the rocker/fuel-injector ball-stud retaining nut. It is manufactured to the original Volvo dimensional, material and interface requirements so the serviced assembly retains its designed alignment, sealing, load capacity and operating reliability. Thread specification: M12 × 1.25. Nominal nut height: 8 mm. In service, it locks the designated rocker or injector ball-stud adjustment while preserving the calibrated setting. Selection must be confirmed by OEM part number 1677396, the exact engine/product model, serial number and the installed assembly configuration.

🔌 Function

The hexagon nut engages the mating thread of a stud or bolt and applies clamping load to the joint when tightened to specification. In the fuel system that clamping load is what keeps sealing faces closed and joints leak-free.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Fuel weeping or staining at the joint the nut secures
  • Thread damage, galling or seizing making removal difficult
  • Rounded or deformed hexagon flats that no longer accept a socket
  • Nut backing off under vibration and losing clamping load
  • Corrosion or pitting of the nut in a marine environment

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check the stud or bolt thread is clean and undamaged and run the nut down by hand first; grit on the thread gives a false torque reading
  • Tighten to the torque in the workshop manual for your engine, following the specified sequence on multi-fastener joints and working round in stages so the load comes up evenly
  • Renew self-locking and all-metal locking nuts rather than reusing them — once the locking feature has been through a cycle it no longer holds reliably
  • Fit the washer, tab or locking arrangement that belongs with that joint; a locking device that was bent or crimped in service should be replaced, not straightened and reused
  • Marine-grade anti-seize on stainless threads reduces galling and makes later removal possible, but keep it off threads that must take a locking compound
