🔌 Function

The delivery valve opens to release the pressurised fuel charge from the pump element into the injection line, then closes and retracts a small volume to drop line pressure sharply. That pressure drop is what gives a clean, rapid end to injection.

• This is a lapped, matched assembly: keep the valve and its seat together, handle them by the ends only, and never mix parts between pumping elements

• Fit new sealing washers and O-rings and tighten the valve holder to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine; over-tightening distorts the seat and under-tightening leaks
• Injection pump work belongs on a test bench, so have delivery and timing checked and the pump recalibrated by a diesel fuel injection specialist after fitting
• Establish why the old valve failed — water or dirt in the fuel is the usual cause, so drain and clean the tank, lines and filters before the pump goes back into service
