🔌 Function

The peg locates a component in its exact position within the assembly so that timing, alignment or orientation is set correctly. It carries locating load that would otherwise fall on the fasteners.

• A peg exists to locate one part accurately to another, so check both the peg and its hole for wear, ovality and burrs before assembly — a slack peg lets the parts it locates move
• Drive it home square with a soft drift, never at an angle, and to the depth the procedure for your engine specifies so it still stands proud enough to locate the mating part fully
• Make sure nothing has been left in the hole and that the mating part seats fully, with no gap at the joint once the peg is engaged
• Renew a peg that has been bent, fretted, sheared or hammered rather than putting it back
