🔧 Product Description

Genuine Volvo Penta pressure cap for the cooling system, sealing the system and holding it at its designed operating pressure. It is listed for TAD-series industrial diesel engines. A pressure cap that no longer holds its rating lowers the coolant boiling point and risks overheating.

  • Volvo Penta TAD1640-42GE-B
  • Volvo Penta TAD1640VE-B

⚙️ Key Features

  • Pressure-regulating coolant cap
  • Used on selected Volvo Penta industrial cooling systems
  • Includes pressure and vacuum-valve functions
  • Maintains cooling-system pressure and coolant recovery
  • Pressure rating and filler-neck profile must match the original tank
  • Engine type: Application dependent

🔌 Function

The pressure cap seals the cooling system and holds it at a set pressure, which raises the coolant's boiling point. It also releases above that pressure and admits air back as the system cools, protecting against both over-pressure and vacuum.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Coolant loss or overflow with no visible external leak
  • Overheating or coolant boiling at normal operating temperature
  • Perished, swollen or damaged cap seal
  • Weak, seized or corroded pressure relief spring
  • Hoses collapsing on cooldown, indicating the vacuum valve is not opening

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Only ever remove a pressure cap on a cold system; hot coolant under pressure comes out at you
  • Fit the cap specified for your engine — its pressure rating is part of the cooling system design, and a cap that vents at the wrong pressure causes overheating or collapsed hoses
  • Check the seat in the filler neck is clean and undamaged first, as a good cap cannot seal against a corroded or distorted seat
  • Fit the cap right home to its stop so both the pressure valve and the vacuum valve can work as intended
  • When hoses collapse or the level in the expansion tank swings and never returns, suspect the cap's vacuum valve before chasing bigger faults
