🔌 Function

Supports the inner propeller shaft and maintains radial alignment inside the IPS lower gear. Press the bushing with a piloted tool, maintain the specified depth and orientation, and inspect the mating shaft or inner ring.

🛠️ Service Notes

• Press only on the stamped, marked end face of the outer shell — that face is made to take the fitting load, and pressing on the opposite end will fold the thin shell over
• Use a proper mandrel with a pilot to enter the bearing square and support the shell right across its face; never hammer directly on the shell and never press on the rollers or the cage
• Check the housing bore is clean, undamaged and within the size the manual for your engine gives; a drawn-cup needle bearing takes its running clearance from the bore, so a worn or oval housing will ruin a new bearing
• Inspect the shaft or journal the rollers run on and renew it if scored or worn — needle rollers mark a shaft, and a new bearing on a scored shaft will not last
• Press to the depth the workshop manual specifies rather than clamping the shell hard against a shoulder in the housing, lubricate as the manual for your engine specifies, then turn the assembly over by hand and check it runs free before any load goes on it
