🛠️ Service Notes

• Fit new sealing washers on both sides of the union every time it is disturbed; used washers have already crushed and work-hardened and will not seal again reliably
• Check the drilling through the nipple is clear before fitting, and that the mating faces on the union and the component are clean, smooth and undamaged
• Support the pipe or hose so it is not twisted or pulled as the nipple is tightened, and let the union find its own natural angle before final tightening
• Tighten only to the figure given in the workshop manual for your engine — overtightening crushes the washers out, distorts the union and stretches the threads, and the joint then leaks whatever you fit
• Run the system up to working pressure and check the joint for weeping, then check it again after the first period of running
