🔌 Function
The flexible water-pump impeller draws raw water through the gearcase intake and circulates it through the engine cooling passages and exhaust system. Its flexible vanes must seal against the pump liner and cam to maintain reliable cooling flow from idle through maximum engine speed.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- Weak or absent tell-tale stream
- Engine temperature rises above normal or the overheat alarm activates
- Impeller vanes are cracked, missing, swollen or permanently set
- Pump housing contains scoring, melted rubber or vane fragments
- The annual or manufacturer-specified water-pump service interval is due
