🔌 Function
The cover retains the cooling-system relief valve and spring, allowing the valve to regulate additional water flow as engine speed and cooling-system pressure increase.
Common signs of failure:
• Cooling water leaks around the cover
• Cover is cracked or corroded
• Gasket repeatedly fails
• Relief valve does not move freely
• Engine overheats at higher RPM
• Engine runs too cool because the valve remains open
• Mounting surface is distorted
