⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Oil-pump component misalignment
  • Sheared or loose locating pin
  • Pump binding or abnormal noise
  • Damage to the front-cover bore
  • Low oil pressure after pump assembly

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Support the component solidly and drive the pin straight along its bore with a pin punch of the correct size — a pin started at an angle burrs the bore and locks up
  • Check the holes in the two parts line up and the bore is clean and free of burrs before you start
  • Fit a new pin rather than reusing one that has been driven out; a spring pin loses its grip once it has been collapsed and expanded
  • Drive it to the same depth as the original so it sits flush and cannot foul or catch a moving part
  • Where the pin retains a shaft, lever or roller, check the joint moves freely afterwards and that the pin is properly captive
