• Find and fix the cause before fitting a replacement — a restricted air intake, a dirty or partly blocked oil feed, a poor oil drain or debris loose in the exhaust will destroy the new turbocharger as quickly as it did the old one
• Renew or thoroughly flush the oil feed and drain lines, fit new sealing washers and gaskets, and change the engine oil and filter at the same time
• Prime the bearing housing with clean engine oil through the feed connection while turning the compressor wheel by hand, before the feed pipe is connected
• Check both wheels spin freely without touching their housings, and that the inlet and exhaust joints are clean and true so nothing can be drawn or blown through
• After starting, let the engine idle so oil reaches the bearings before any load is applied, and idle it again to cool the bearings before shutting down after a hard run
