Positions the thermostat housing and maintains correct compression of the adjoining seals.

  • Housing misalignment

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Refit the spacer in the same position and the same way round as it came out; many spacers set an end float, an alignment or a preload and are not simply packing
  • Never leave a spacer out, substitute plain washers for it, or stack washers to make up a missing one
  • Keep the faces clean, flat and free of burrs and old sealant, and check the spacer itself for wear, scoring or having been drawn down out of shape
  • Where several spacers or shims come out together, keep them in order and refit them in the same sequence
  • Tighten the fastening to the figure given in the workshop manual for your engine, then check any clearance or end float the spacer controls
