🛠️ Service Notes

  • Check the housing bore and the shaft or pin that runs in the bushing before fitting a new one; a worn or scored mating part will chew out a new bushing quickly
  • Press bushings in squarely with a press and a correctly sized drift or mandrel — hammering one straight in distorts it and ruins the fit
  • Where the bushing has an oil hole, groove or slot, line it up with the feed in the housing before it is pressed home
  • Lubricate on assembly with the oil or grease specified for that part of the engine or drive, and follow the manual if it calls for the bore to be checked or sized after fitting
  • Do not soak a self-lubricating bushing in solvent or degreaser, and keep sealant and thread lock off the running surface
