🛠️ Service Notes

• A manifold is a distribution casting, so every port and joint has to seal — renew all gaskets, seals and sealing washers on refitting rather than reusing the old ones
• Clean both mating faces back to bare metal and check the flanges for flatness, cracks and corrosion pitting; a distorted flange will not pull down onto a new gasket
• Make sure the internal passages are clear of scale, carbon and debris before fitting, and blank the open ports while the manifold is off the engine
• Draw the fasteners down progressively in the sequence and to the torque given in the workshop manual for your engine, then recheck after the first heat cycle if the manual asks for it
• On any manifold carrying raw water or exhaust gas, inspect the internal waterways at the same time — these castings corrode from the inside out and can look sound outside while the passages are wasted
