🔧 Product Description
A genuine Volvo Penta sensor used in the engine coolant-temperature monitoring circuit. It is supplied as an individual service component under part number 20450695 and is intended to restore the original fit, alignment, sealing, support or operating function of the specified assembly. This listing supplies the named part only; adjoining components shown in an parts list for your engine are serviced separately unless explicitly stated.
⚙️ Key Features
- Designed for the engine coolant-temperature monitoring circuit
- Designed to maintain the intended electrical signal or current path
- Engine type: Volvo Penta D5/D7 industrial diesel
🔌 Function
Converts the monitored engine condition into an electrical signal used by the control, alarm or display system.
⚠️ Common Signs of Failure
- The displayed reading is implausible, fixed or intermittent
- A false warning, alarm or engine-control fault is recorded
- The signal drops out because of connector corrosion or wiring damage
- The engine control system responds incorrectly to the measured condition
- Testing shows an open circuit, short circuit or signal outside specification
🛠️ Service Notes
- Note how the sensor sits and how its lead is routed before removing it, and support the harness so refitting does not leave the cable strained or rubbing
- Turn the sensor with a spanner on its hex only — never lever or twist it by the connector body or the wiring, which breaks the internal joint even when the sensor looks undamaged
- Renew the O-ring or sealing washer where one is fitted, and do not add thread sealant unless the manual for your engine specifies it; sealant on the threads can break the earth path of a sensor that earths through its body
- Tighten to the figure in the workshop manual for your engine — overtightening distorts the housing and shifts or destroys the sensing element
- Make sure the connector is clean, dry and fully latched home and check the pins for corrosion and spread — a poor connector accounts for a great many faults blamed on the sensor — then run the engine and confirm the reading or warning lamp behaves sensibly before returning the boat to service
