  • Oil pressure falling away, particularly when hot and at idle
  • Bearing material found in the drained oil or on the sump magnet
  • The shell found scored, wiped or with the overlay worn through to the backing
  • The journal picked up or discoloured where the oil film has broken down

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Measure the crankshaft journals before ordering - a reground crankshaft needs the 0.25 mm undersize shell 20459139 instead, and a standard shell on a reground journal will have no oil film at all
  • Order by the stamped grade rather than by weight, and renew the shells as a set rather than individually
  • Volvo Penta's overhaul kits call for 5 or 7 off of this part, the count following the number of cylinders
