🔌 Function

Clamps the crankshaft front pulley or hub assembly, holding it on the shaft against the torque and vibration of the accessory drive.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Knock or rumble from the front of the engine that follows revs
  • Pulley running out of true or belts being thrown
  • Bright fretting dust around the pulley face
  • Screw found stretched, loose or snapped on inspection
  • Pulley or hub bolt holes found worn and the faces found scuffed

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Front pulley fasteners carry drive torque - if one has been loose or has failed, inspect the pulley, hub and damper faces before reassembly rather than just fitting a new screw
  • Renew rather than reuse a fastener that has come loose, and tighten to the figure in the workshop manual
