🔧 Product Description

This genuine Volvo Penta gasket is an OEM service component used in the Mechanical Governor / Control-Housing Gasket. It is manufactured to the original Volvo Penta dimensional, material and interface requirements for the documented Volvo Penta 5- and 7-litre TD/TAD generator diesel mechanical-governor systems application. Technical identification: Gasket installed between the mechanical governor/control housing components; Volvo product group 2520, function group 2199.. In service, it creates a controlled seal between mating surfaces so fluid, gas, pressure or contaminants cannot pass across the joint. Selection must be confirmed by OEM part number 20551783, the exact model/product number, serial number and installed assembly configuration.

⚙️ Key Features

  • OEM part number 20551783
  • Technical distinction: Gasket installed between the mechanical governor/control housing components; Volvo product group 2520, function group 2199.

🔌 Function

Creates a controlled seal between mating surfaces so fluid, gas, pressure or contaminants cannot pass across the joint. Clean and inspect both sealing surfaces, renew the seal whenever the joint is opened, avoid twisting or cutting and tighten the joint evenly to specification.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

  • Visible oil, coolant, fuel or air leakage at the sealed joint
  • Loss of pressure, vacuum or fluid level in the connected system
  • Contamination passing across the seal or entering the assembly
  • Seal hardened, cut, swollen, flattened or displaced
  • Repeat leakage caused by a damaged groove, shaft or mating face

🛠️ Service Notes

  • Fit a new gasket every time the joint is disturbed — a gasket takes a permanent set once it has been torqued and will not seal reliably a second time
  • Scrape both faces back to clean bare metal, keeping the blade at a shallow angle so it lifts the old material without gouging the surface, and use a plastic scraper on aluminium castings
  • Check the faces for flatness, cracks and corrosion pitting, and make sure no old gasket, carbon or hardened sealant is left in the corners or around the bolt holes
  • Fit the gasket dry unless the workshop manual for your engine calls for a sealant, and then only the type it specifies — surplus sealant squeezes out into oil, coolant and fuel passages
  • Draw the fasteners down progressively in the sequence and to the torque given in the manual for your engine, and recheck after the first heat cycle where the manual asks for it
