🔌 Function

Clamps the oil pump or filter head to the block, holding the oil joint tight against pump pressure.

⚠️ Common Signs of Failure

• Oil weeping from the pump or filter-head joint
• Oil pressure lower than usual as the joint leaks internally
• Screw found loose on inspection
• Flange face fretted where it has been moving
• Thread pulled in the housing

🛠️ Service Notes

• The integral flange spreads the load and forms the bearing face, so do not add a separate washer unless the workshop manual for your engine specifically calls for one
• Clean the threads and the seating face before fitting — grit, paint or old sealant under the flange gives a false torque reading and the joint will slacken off in service
• Where the flange is serrated it must bear directly on clean metal to grip; discard any screw with a deformed flange or damaged serrations rather than reusing it
• Tighten to the torque and sequence given in the workshop manual for your engine, and treat the screw as single-use where the manual specifies an angle-tightened or stretch fastener
• Check the thread in the receiving component at the same time; a pulled or corroded thread will not hold a new screw however carefully it is torqued
